Beauty Box is located in the heart of Echo Park, a diverse and lively neighborhood just north of downtown LA. Once a month, they open their doors to Homegirl Café (a downtown gang intervention program) and give one girl a free makeover. In addition to giving the girls a new cut and color, they do their make-up and talk to them about how they can present themselves in interviews, and feel confident about how they look.

"It lets them see themselves in a different way," said Vanessa. Each girl goes home with her own beauty care package.

In 2009, Beauty Box's extensive community work earned them the "Best Life-Changing Salon" award from LA Weekly.
